Surveyor 2.5.1 now takes advantage of gyroscope, provides a much smoother AR experience

New update of Surveyor give it ability to leverage gyroscope and sensor fusion built in the device to provide much better AR result than accelerometer and magnetic field sensor. Be sure to grab update 2.5.1 from Android Market and see how awesome your device can do with Surveyor.

Most Android phones released this year have gyroscope built in. And more importantly a new facility called 'sensor fusion' is introduced to most Android devices. It combine the readings of all sensors available on the device and calculate an almost perfect result for applications to use.

Recent updates and new features of Surveyor

Last saturday I released version 2.3.1 and yesterday the iPhone version passed the review of Apple and is now available in the AppStore.

A few new features has been introduced in both versions.
These updates are focused on camera height parameter which lots of people are confused of.

* You can now use a known distance to calculate height parameter reversely.

iPhone version of Surveyor is now available in AppStore!

The name of the iPhone app is 'GyroSurveyor'. You can download it for free in AppStore.
The reason I use the name 'GyroSurveyor' is because that this iphone version uses gyroscope and the name 'Surveyor' is already taken by another app.

I have to say that gyroscope is really awesome. It's much more sensitive and accurate than magnetic sensors that work in Android devices. I can't wait for Nexus S and see how gyroscope performs on Android.

Surveyor 2.0.2 and GeoRecorder 1.3.2 released

These 2 updates are maintenance updates. They both include a new about dialog with an update log and some minor fixes.
And I also optimized the compiled code so the download size is smaller.

GeoRecorder 1.3 & Surveyor 2.0 build 616 released

GeoRecroder 1.3 include a new feature: track playback
Now you can replay your saved tracks in map view. There are different speed you can choose and you are free to navigate to any logged point through a slider.

Surveyor 2.0 build 616 is a bug fix release
It has structural change internally to avoid possible error and give user a smoother experience than before. Upgrade is highly recommended.

Surveyor 2.0 released

We just released Surveyor 2.0 to Android Market.

This version has a lot of improvements, the major ones are:

* Redesigned UI. Measurement result has been put on the bottom of the screen. Camera height adjustment has been modified to a slide bar on the left side, and two more buttons have been added.
* New feature: save measurement result as an image.
By pressing the camera button beside the measurement result, the current measurement and what you see on the screen will be saved to sdcard as an image. So you can check your measurements later or send it to someone else.

GeoRecorder -- Your set-n-forget GPS logger on android devices

GeoRecorder is a GPS logger that doesn't need your attention to operate.

Once installed, it will automatically log your current position whenever a fix is available from the GPS system, no matter what application is requesting the location update. And it won't interrupt your interaction with the application.

For example when Google Maps application use the GPS information to find out where you are, the same data is also logged to GeoRecorder database.

Surveyor - measure distances with a single click on your phone

Surveyor is a mobile application runs on Android platform, iPhone 4 and 4th generation of iPod Touch. It can help you estimate distances within visual range with the help of camera and orientation sensors on your device.

It uses data from orientation sensors and the camera image to determine 3D coordinates of the object you selected and then give you the distance from the object to you or another object.
